Your landlord insures the building. Your belongings are up to you.
Renters insurance can replace your belongings after a covered fire, theft, or burst pipe, and can cover you when you are responsible for a guest's injury. We quote it with several carriers, and adding it to your auto policy may earn a discount on the car.
A landlord insures the walls, the roof, and their own liability. Your furniture, clothes, electronics, and tools are not on that policy, and neither is a lawsuit from a guest who slips in your kitchen.
Tennessee law doesn't require renters insurance, but many leases do. If yours asks for a liability limit or wants the landlord listed on the policy, send us the lease language and we'll match it. When you start the quote, choose Home, then Renters.
Coverage
What a renters policy covers.
A quote request does not bind, change, or cancel coverage. Campbell Insurance will confirm details in writing before any coverage action is taken.
Your belongings
Personal property coverage pays to replace what you own after a covered loss such as fire, theft, or water from a burst pipe. Replacement cost pays for new items, while actual cash value subtracts depreciation first.

Liability

A place to stay
If a covered loss makes your rental unlivable, loss of use pays for a hotel or short-term rental and the extra cost of meals while repairs are made.

Gaps to ask about
Renters policies exclude flood and cap what they pay for jewelry, firearms, and collectibles. We ask about both and add coverage where you need it.

Questions
Common questions.
Is renters insurance required in Tennessee?
No state law requires it, but your lease can. Landlords often ask for proof of coverage and a minimum liability limit before you move in.
How much does renters insurance cost?
It is usually one of the less expensive policies you can buy. Your price depends on how much you insure, your deductible, and where you live, and adding it to an auto policy may earn a discount on the car.
Does renters insurance cover my roommate?
Usually not, unless they are named on it. Most policies cover you and relatives who live with you, so a roommate should carry a policy of their own.
Does renters insurance cover flooding?
No. Flood needs a separate policy, and renters can buy contents-only flood coverage through the National Flood Insurance Program.
